Since the time of the manor, catering has been offered in the dining hall of the west wing of Alatskivi Castle, and we continue this tradition even today. The restaurant consists of two halls: the main hall with a black ceiling, where we can offer meals to 48 guests every day, and a small restaurant hall, which was historically the baron's bedroom. The small hall can accommodate 18 guests. In addition, the northern terrace of the castle is open in the summer, with a wonderful view of the rose garden and the castle lake.
Today, the restaurant's kitchens are also located in their historical place, i.e. the castle cellar. The mission of our kitchen has always been to remember the history of the castle, and set our menu accordingly. Alatskivi Castle is historically linked by three cultures: the culture of the manor through the baron's family, the Estonian peasant culture through the servants who worked in the castle, and the Scottish culture, which was very close to the baron's heart and which is immediately recognizable in the castle's architecture.
Consequently, the influence of all three cultures and a certain historical rusticity are represented in our menu.
The Castle restaurant is a family business that started operating in December 2008. After 7 months of extensive restoration work, during which the restaurant premises and the kitchens located in the basement were restored, we opened the restaurant to visitors on July 1, 2009. In the following spring, we continued with the renovation of accommodation in the west wing, which was finally completed in 2012.
